Kapiti Women on The Fly

Kapiti Women on The Fly hosts regular events and classes for women to try out fly fishing for the first time, and to increase our confidence and skills.

The goals of this initiative is to:
  • To grow female club membership and encourage more female participation in fly fishing in the wider Wellington region,
  • Build a support group for current and inspiring female anglers, where women can make friends, gain confidence, and learn skills.
  • To raise the profile of fly fishing as a healthy outdoor activity for women that has proven positive effects on mental health and wellbeing.

Hi.  I'm Leigh Johnson

When I joined the Kapiti Fly Fishing Club early in 2021, I was asked to join the committee.  Once there I wanted to find a way to help other women to enjoy this amazing activity.

I know how good being on the water is for my mental health.

Even when I don’t catch many, fishing is like a mental reset that helps me leave
stress behind and focus on the moment.

Please come along to a club meeting and don't hesitate to email me here.

You'll also find other women on the fly at
Facebook and Instagram.

Hey ladies! Fly fishing is great for your mental and physical health.
If you've ever wanted to give fly fishing a go then please get in touch.
